الدورة الشهرية في المرأة هي: الفترة من أول يوم نزول للدورة إلى أول يوم نزول الدورة التالية.

قبل أن نتحدث عن كيفية حدوث الدورة، يجب أن نعرف شيئاً ــ مبسطاً ـ عن الجهاز التناسلي عند المرأة .



يتكون الجهاز التناسلي للمرأة من :

* المبيضين لتكوين البييضة مرة واحدة شهرياً.

*قناتي المبيضين (فالوب) (البوقَيْن) لحمل البييضة إلى الرحم.

*الرحم لاستقبال البييضة الملقحة، وحمايتها طول مدة الحمل بما في ذلك التغذية والأكسجين وخلافه.

أما كيف تحدث الدورة الشهرية :

فإنه يحدث تحت تأثير 'الهرمونات' التي يفرزها المبيضان بعد أن ينمو الغشاء المبطن للرحم، وفي حالة عدم حدوث حمل نجد أن هذا الغشاء يتساقط مع نزول الدم، ويحدث (الطمث) الذي تتراوح مدته ـ عادة ـ من ثلاثة إلى خمسة أيام، وقد يمتد أكثر أو أقل من ذلك بقليل.

بعد نهاية حدوث الطمث يكون الغشاء المبطن للرحم ليس به إلا (الطبقة القاعدية) فقط، ونتيجة لإفراز (هرمون الإستروجين) تنمو الطبقة السطحية من خلايا الطبقة القاعدية، وتسمى هذه المرحلة مرحلة النمو. وعندما يحدث التبييض وتتحول الحويصلة إلى الجسم الأصفر نجد الدم قد أصبح يحتوى علي (هرمون البروجيسترون) بالإضافة إلى (هرمون الإستروجين) وتحت تأثير (هرمون البروجيسترون) يزيد نمو الطبقة السطحية للغشاء المبطن للرحم، وتنمو الغدد المخاطية به، وتتخزن مادة (الجليكوجين) في خلاياه.



وما فائدة ذلك؟ ولماذا كل هذا؟

كل ذلك استعداداً لاستقبال البييضة الملقحة، وتغذيتها في حالة حدوث حمل، وتسمى هذه المرحلة بمرحلة ( النمو الإفرازي).
